High Blood Pressure: Causes and Solutions for Bodybuilders

Every so often, questions about blood pressure pop up, and the truth is, it's probably the biggest health hazard in our field. Many young guys using performance-enhancing substances—I've been there myself—often see "roid rage" as something cool, without realizing it's likely a symptom of high blood pressure. Elevated blood pressure could be responsible for a large percentage of cardiovascular and organ-related diseases.

We need to talk about this more. In my opinion, no one using gear should be without a blood pressure monitor. I figured this out years after I started; I used to think the rage just meant I was tough! My approach now includes regular cardio sessions, eating as clean as possible, and taking omega-3 fish oil along with other heart supplements.

I encourage everyone to share their methods and thoughts on controlling blood pressure. I believe that using blood pressure medication is beneficial if needed, rather than letting things spiral out of control. High blood pressure deteriorates your health, which is the opposite of our goals. Just like a well-maintained engine lasts longer than one that's constantly pushed to the limit, taking care of your body ensures longevity in the sport.

Couldn't agree more with you. High blood pressure is a silent killer. I've been on blood pressure medication for a year now, and it hasn't affected my training negatively at all. In fact, I feel more stable and can push harder during workouts. I also make sure to get regular check-ups with my doctor to monitor any potential side effects from the gear.

I've started using beetroot juice as a natural way to lower blood pressure—it’s rich in nitrates which help improve blood flow. Combining that with regular cardio sessions has kept my BP in the normal range. I also avoid stimulants like excessive caffeine, which can spike blood pressure.
