Important Information for AI Users (Arimidex): Too Little Estrogen Can Be Harmful for Men

Hi, everyone!

If you're using Arimidex or another aromatase inhibitor (AI) and are noticing strange symptoms, it's worth considering whether you might be taking too much. This happened to me—I used it to address bloating, but within just three days, I began experiencing side effects. In hindsight, I now realize I was taking too much, and I want to make sure others don't make the same mistake.

Aromatase inhibitors can be very potent and have a rapid effect on estrogen levels. Since men get most of their estrogen from the conversion of testosterone, blocking this conversion too aggressively can cause a significant drop in estradiol (the primary form of estrogen), which can result in very low levels. As with anything in the body, levels that are too far outside the optimal range can cause problems.

My Main Takeaway: It's important to keep estrogen low, but not too low.

Based on my own experience and research from various articles and forums, I’ve identified several symptoms that can occur when estrogen drops too much in men:

1. Night sweats
2. Insomnia
3. Very low libido
4. Itching
5. Severe acne (which was unusual for me, as I don’t typically break out)
6. Difficulty building muscle (since estrogen plays a role in muscle growth)

Here are some other common symptoms of low estrogen in men, based on research:

- Increased risk of fractures (especially hip fractures)
- Changes in body temperature
- Decreased sexual libido
- Skin irritations
- Voice changes
- Weight gain
- Shrinking testicles
- Changes in body odor

Low estrogen can even affect the adrenal glands and decrease serotonin in the brain, leading to further issues such as:

- Joint cracking or soreness
- Fatigue and depression
- Anxiety or obsessive behaviors
- Emotional blunting (feeling less emotional or disconnected)
- Increased irritability or impulsivity
- Weakening of the adrenal glands, which can cause certain forms of depression

For those of you using hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for life extension, it's important to note that imbalanced estrogen levels (either too high or too low) can significantly increase the risk of mortality. Maintaining balance is crucial for overall health.

Symptoms of high estradiol (E2) levels include :

- Depression and anxiety
- Difficulty reaching orgasm
- No "morning wood" or nocturnal erections
- Gynecomastia (man boobs)
- Water retention and bloating
- Increased blood pressure
- Decreased libido and erectile dysfunction
- Insulin resistance and fatigue after meals
- Increased fat in the abdominal area
- Redness on the face or chest
- Thinning skin

As you can see, both too little and too much estrogen can cause significant health issues. It's essential to monitor your hormone levels closely to maintain a healthy balance.
